Unfortunately, there are two very large plots of land (think farmland and horse pasture) to the west that are currently being considered for R2 rezoning (houses that would be considered less than desirable for the neighborhood) and the owner\investor will surely subdivide to maximize his profit. In addition, the city plans to make our beloved dead-end street a thoroughfare - a through street. We, the neighbors, are currently writing letters to the city and the investor condemning both the R2 rezone and said thoroughfare. Tonight we will be circulating two petitions: one condemning the thoroughfare and one condemning the R2 zoning.
Any other (legal) ideas on how we can rise up and fight the power?

Put a price out on the investors head? Collect an extra 5k from the neighbors.... check w/ Uncle Guido.
i always find that the best way to get someone to listen to you is to climb the ladder to their superiors. start with the bottom and work your way up.....
they never like people who don't give up.
man that sounds like a real bummer, the only piece of advice i can give is go to the media or local newspaper, write an article or write your local politician or drop by and pay them a visit. the petition idea is a good one, stick with it and don't give up for what u believe in
and oh yeah keep us posted!
Ok, so I know I'm a day late and dollar short, but what happened? How'd the meeting go? Were your voices and opinions heard or were they drowned out by the voice of money, disguised as prosperity? If all else fails, you may want to follow hk's words of wisdom...
