Friday Five

Name your favorite brands for the following products:

1. Cola: Pepsi or Mountain Dew
2. Sneakers: People still say "snearkers"? Sketchers or Nike
3. Hair care: Edge Shaving Gel and Mach 3 Turbo. I'm trying to be as aerodynamic as I can.
4. Small electronics: Sony
5. Automobile: Dodge
T-minus three hours before I leave for Central City. It should be a good time. I never really have been a big gambler but I like the atmosphere.

Those Central City busses are always so funny. Everyone is really excited while they are going up the hill but the bus ride down (back to Denver) is really quiet. There is always one person on the bus who won and they are always very annoying about it. I'm really glad we are staying up there.

Happy birthday Mike. I’m sorry I’m not going to be able to celebrate with you guys. Have fun and drink a Rumple for me.

Blah...I didn't feel like doing the whole "stuff-exchange" last night so it looks like I'm going to have to get to it next week.

Wow! It is cold today! It's April and it was in the high 70s last week. Today, I woke up to snow on the ground and 32 degree weather. You have to love Colorado. If you don't like the weather here, wait 5 minutes.

Well, I'm supposed to get the rest of Jenn's stuff back to her tonight sometime. I'm really not looking forward to that.

Blah!

OK...ever have one of those weeks? You know, where you aren't really motivated to be at work. Well, I'm going on my second week of that right now. Maybe it's because I have spring fever. Maybe it's because I don't like doing documentation. I have so much to get done here at work and so little motivation to do it. It’s time to dig deep, suck it up and get it done. As my Dad would say, "it's not going to get done on it's own".

I'll be going back out to Sacramento on the night of the third and coming home the evening of the fourth for work. I don't really agree with this trip. It seems like a waste of time and money to me but the team in Sacramento insisted that I come out to do this Dept. of Justice testing when I can easily do this remotely. This even baffles the DOJ team. I just know I'll be fielding questions that should land on my PM's plate.

Summer can’t come soon enough. I’m really excited about all the rain we’ve been getting. Most people don’t know this, and it hold true especially in Colorado, but rain actually warms our lakes.

I did a grip of work on the house this weekend.

Inside:
I’m almost completely finished with the door and I spackled some cracks and holes in the walls from various pictures, etc. It looks really good. I’m going to sand and texture when I get home tonight and then begin the work on the storm door. Thanks for the help Dad! You’re a smart cookie!

Outside:
I mowed the South side of the house and put vegetation killer down. I also picked up the landscaping material I will need to start in on the lava rock garden. I know it is going to look really good. I’ll probably add a few rose bushes in whiskey barrels once I get everything else done. You have to love old houses.

My house was built in 1951 and it desperately needs a remodel. I’m doing what I can when I can but finding the time and money is always a problem.

What’s next:
  • Removal of all those overgrown lilac bushes on the North and East
  • Driveway
  • Build Dog run
  • Replace all windows
  • Finish bathroom trim, paint and tile (some drywall work)
  • Kitchen remodel

Oh man! I almost forgot about this!

I have another funny story about the first time Arrow went to the lake with us. Of course I open the gate and Bo "b-lines" it for the water, takes three strides and he was swimming. Arrow followed Bo right up to the waters edge and put the breaks on. It was the funniest thing. I mean he really dug in. He ran up and down the beach barking. I couldn't figure out what he was barking at. Then it hit me...he was barking at the waves (boat rollers). They were freaking him out. What an experience. This pup really has taught me a lot about being patient. He is still a punk sometimes but he is the "yang" to Bo's "yen". They make a great pair and I'm lucky to be owned by such great labs.
I used to belong to a email list called "labchat" and I was fortunate enough to get my youngest pup, Arrow though this list.
  • labchat · This list is for people who are interested in the Labrador Retriever, who have Labs or who are looking to find that perfect pup

Anyway, I stumbled on some old posts and this was the day I decided I was going to get Arrow. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. This was the day I brought him home. We had our problems at first but he has really come around. Watching both Bo and Arrow work in the field is priceless. They are out there doing what they love to do. My hunting friends will tell you..."the nose knows!"

Friday Five

1. How many locations (dwellings) have you lived in? Three...moving sucks. Moving friends sucks even worse. You know who you are! ;o) It's one of the downfalls of owning a truck. But hey...I have some good friends who WILL do it for me someday. ;o)

2. If you could place your dream home in any location, where would it be? Some Beach...somewhere!

3. In terms of the act of moving: are you a packer or a box mover? I'm a "throw everything in the truck and geterdone" mover. Boxes slow you down. Packing slows you down.

4. What one item do you own that you absolutely hate to move? My entertainment center (including theTV).

5. What's worse: the act of moving or a routine cleaning at the dentist? Moving, without doubt. The dentist takes, what? Maybe an hour...if that.

I saw this quote and thought I'd share.

Lake Trash Posted by Hello
I just scored two free Rockies ticket vouchers for any game in April! Free is goooooood and I can use that 40 bucks to buy beer at the game. Oh yeah!!! Hey...maybe they will even win when I go. I'm one for one so far this season.

The second ticket is up for grabs. First come...first served (get your mind outta the gutter).
I've never been to Seattle but from what I've heard, that's what it looks like here today. It's pretty gloomy out today and doesn't do much for the whole motivation factor. I'll bet it's really nice in Florida right now.

Speaking of Florida...my Dad flew in yesterday so I had dinner with parents last night. Hey Dad, I know you probably don't read this but sure feels good to have you back in town. You are my rock.

Tuesday, April 19, 2005

Good news! Truck is done! WHEEEEEW!!! ;o) I picked up the wheel last night so I'm ready to rock and roll!!! Time to pay the piper.

Found a cool little romance tips site and I think I'll read up on it. See, I want to be good at "relationships" but I just suck.
OK...I have no idea what is going on with my truck. I called them at lunch and they said they would call me back. Pisses me off. I wish I had the time to replace that axle myself. I know it's positraction but I bet I could do it given enough time and a manual.

Monday, April 18, 2005

Well, I have all the wood for my landscaping project but I need to get landscaping fabric before I go any further. Man, that stuff isn't cheap. I need at least 300 feet of it and the area I am going to be working on is 9 feet wide. That equates to like 140 bucks of fabric. That's alright though. Once I get it done, I don't have to mess with it again and I don't have to deal with watering or pulling weeds from that area again.

The tree removal people are supposed to be coming out next weekend to give me an estimate. Have I mentioned that I can't stand lilac bushes? They produce really pretty flowers that smell really good for like 3 weeks a year. Plus, these things grow like weeds and you can only cut them in the Winter or said flowers won't grow for 7 years. There's not enough bang for my buck. I want them all gone. I know it's going to cost me. I'd do it myself but I've already gone through 3 chainsaw blades and I'm not even close to being done.

I had to take my truck into the shop today. I hit a storm drain pretty hard with the rear passenger wheel during that snow we had the weekend before last. This is the first time my Dodge Dakota has been in the shop since I got it at the end of 2001. #1. I hope they can get it done today and #2. I really hope the axle isn't too messed up.

TGIF! Hell yeah!

I have a ton of home improvement type projects to do this weekend and I'm really looking forward to getting them done.

I also need to get the rest of Jenn's crap back to her too...though pretty much everyone I know thinks I should just chuck-it. There's stuff I know she would want though...pic of her Mom and Dad and that kinda stuff. I may just drop it off at the bar on Saturday and let them give it to her when she gets to work.

I'm also supposed to go to this with some friends tonight. Should be interesting.

Friday, April 08, 2005

It's Friday...finally! The first Friday as a single guy. Wonder what I'll do tonight??? Oh, so many options! I'm actually pretty psyched! Boooooooo-yaaaaaaa tooooooooooo yaaaaaaa! Should be fun. K-bye now.

Thursday, April 07, 2005

All I can say is you learn something new about somebody everyday and I guess I will be getting the pictures to prove it. I'm really glad I found out now so I can put it all behind me and get moving in the right direction. It's been a sad day but I really do feel like a ton of bricks have been lifted from my shoulders. Tally-hoe...I'm single again.

Wednesday, April 06, 2005

I think I need "Clocky"...an industrial strength Clocky. Probably one that shocks me when I hit the snooze button.
My friend, Dave, is famous but our borders are still porous. I dig the statement they made.

I'm tired!

Well, it was probably the best Rockies game I've ever seen. Congrats Barmes for becoming the first rookie to hit a game-ending home run in the history of the Rockies!!! I may have to start watching these guys more often.

We started off at LoDo's Bar and Grill. A few beers, shots and rum and cokes later we headed to the game. We left a little late so I thought we'd get right in. I think everyone and their brother had the same idea. What a great afternoon though. The weather was perfect. Not too hot and not too cool...and of course that made me thirsty. ;o)

After the game, we crossed the street and went into Jackson's. Everyone seemed psyched that the Rocks won. At this point I needed sustinance so we walked down to Illegal Pete's for a burrito and yet another beer.

Pool was next and since I was seeing double, I had to close one eye just to shoot.

I think we started at like 11ish and I didn't get home until like 1:30AM. My body hates me but I know my bed loves me!

Friday, April 01, 2005

Heeeeeeead hurts! Went over to Cool River and then the Purple Martini last night and had a pretty good time but I'm paying for it this morning. It's all good.

Speaking of, I ran into a couple of my boarding friends. They are living back in the Denver area again so hopefully I'll get out on the lake with them a few times this year. The Summer is starting to shape up! I want to plan a weekend get-together up at Jackson Lake this year and people are already starting to talk about going camping in Glendo, WY. I wouldn't mind going to Powell this year either. It's been about 3 years since I was there.
